Army of Darkness 1979 #2 The Only Faction Missing Are "The Warriors"

Army of Darkness 1979 may end up being the best series from Dynamite. I started reading Dynamite Comics for Vampirella and the variant covers.
Unfortunately, besides eye candy and beautiful cover art there is a dearth substance in many of Dynamites titles. I’m not sure if it’s because nearly every Dynamite is a mini-series or if the publisher has a limited talent pool but nothing about their books stand out besides the obvious Ass and Tiddies.
Army of Darkness 1979 #2 is the rare blend of horror, humor, nostalgia and heroics. Rodney Barnes has perfectly captured Ashes Character in the dialogue and the absurdity of the setting. The art from Tom Garcia also does a great job in blending blood and guts with the frenetic action of your favorite Superhero comic. Every comic is someone’s first so if you start you start here with issue #2 or wait for the collected edition of this series, I think you’ll find something to latch on to.
The only thing missing from this issue is “The Warriors” the series is clearly inspired by the classic 1979 film and it’s a shame they don’t appear. I’m assuming that Dynamite could not get the license to those characters..
The Plot for this installment isn’t that deed. Ash and his new gang prepare to take on the Warlocks. The Warlock’s kill a fuck ton of people while looking menacingly. The Deadites are also thrown in for good measure.
The book is a lot of fun and doesn’t waste time trying to be something it’s not which is refreshing, and honestly more mainstream publishers should be doing in light of the current economic and political climate.
My only complaint for the issue is the blistering pace of the first two issue. I’d imagine that in trade this wouldn’t be much of a problem but at $3.99 an issue it’s hard to justify the cover price when the comic reading experience is about 5 minutes.
In Short: If you have a passing interest in the Army of Darkness and The Warriors 1979 film you owe it to yourself to checkout this series.
